My Past Has Come Back

I am back. The Madman had an experience, and a bit of a blast, from the past last night. I think that I mentioned that my old and first love/girlfriend's mother passed away last week (on her 16th anniversary I might add). I went to the shiva last night.

That was wild. Keep in mind that she lives one street north of my sister, who was friends with her younger brother, who lives around me. Apparently, my ex (it has been so long that it is difficult to call her that but I want to keep her as anonymous as possible) sees my sister frequently and even says about her to others "she could have been my sister in law", which is really getting away ahead of itself, but......

Anyway, I pull up to the house. I get out of my car and immediately start walking towards the wrong house. It is like I am in some kind of fog. I see some dude speaking to his neighbour and then heading to the house, so he directs me. He introduces himself and he is X's husband (let us call her X). I introduce myself and then am told that I am "a legend in their house". (Sad, what passes for legends these days, then again sadder still what passes for celebrity, so...).

We walk in and points me out to X, who gives the old "Oh my G-d!". To which I reply while looking around, "Thank you for noticing." She then starts to cry. After all these years, I can still bring her to tears. What a fucking power I have. I promise to use it only for good.

We chatted. I think she really appreciated my appearance. I seem to still hold a bit of a soft spot in her heart...and she mine (enough of the sentimental crap).

Okay, while I was there, I found myself chatting to a woman whom I knew but could not quite place and was too embarrassed to ask her name (she seemed to know and recognize me). I knew the face, but could not figure out the context to put a name to her. We are chatting for about 15 minutes and then she says "You remember my sister, Sharon." I said no, but then it dawns on me who this is. It was the youngest daughter of a pharmacist who worked for our family for years.

In fact, this pharmacist, who I always liked, always remembered my birthday, because this daughter of hers was born on the same date, a year or two later. At that point, we chatted about her parents and uncle (who also worked for us as a pharmacist). That was freaky.

I did chat with X's brother. It is always nice to catch up. Anyway, that is all I had to say about that. I was glad that I went as X's husband said that it was a good cry for her and my appearance certainly touched her. She deserves it in any event. I always did like and we did go out casaually, once or twice, while in university. I was just unwilling to push things further as I did not want to reopen a can of worms.

I am done for today. Ciao!
